In a season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops ranked the top 30 boys. Each day we featured an amazing player in our county and counted down until we got to #1. We hope you enjoyed the countdown as we honored the best of the best.
#30
Trey Smiley, senior, Lynden
WHY HE’S #30: Smiley was the unsung player for the Class 2A state champions who did much that was not reflected in the scorebook. The 6-foot-3 forward defended, was third on the team in rebounding, and was second in assists (90 for the season). He was a point forward who handled the ball against pressure and sacrificed his scoring to set up teammates.
COACH BRIAN ROPER: “If you watch Trey over time you realize the many little things he does. It could be get a steal, a loose ball or a rebound or find open shooters from the high post. He is a fun-loving guy who is confident and became for us a star in his role.”
