In a season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops has ranked the top 30 boys. Each day we featured an amazing player in our county and today we finally get to #1. We hope you enjoyed the countdown as we honored the best of the best.

Anthony Canales, junior, Lynden

WHY HE’S #1: To be the best, you have to stand out against the best and Canales has certainly done that. For the second season in a row, he dominated the Class 2A state tournament and was named the tourney MVP after leading the Lions to back-to-back state championships. An unstoppable offensive force who averaged 20 points a game, the 6-foot-4 guard also led the team with 5.6 rebounds a game, added 2 assists a game, and was another of the Lions’ strong one-on-one defenders. If that wasn’t enough, his enthusiasm for the game and encouragement for his teammates put him on the all-Northwest Conference first team and the Scorebook Live Class 2A all-state first team and made him a deserving #1 player among the Whatcom Hoops Top 30.
