Whatcom Hoops Girls Top 30: #1 Devin Coppinger

In an incredible season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 girls. Each day we’ve featured an amazing player in our county, and today we’re ending our countdown with #1. So here is the best of the best.

#1

Devin Coppinger, senior, Nooksack Valley

WHY SHE’S #1: Who else would be #1? Coppinger took her place as arguably the best player in Whatcom County history by leading the Pioneers to their second straight Class 1A state championship. The 5-foot-11 point guard is a three-time Northwest Conference MVP, three-time Class 1A all-state player and two-time 1A player of the year and state tournament MVP, this year’s coaches association Ms. Basketball player of the year for all classifications, Tacoma News Tribune all-state first team for all classifications, the MVP of the Washington-Oregon all-star game, a McDonald’s All-American nominee, and consistently ranked among the top players in the nation. She averaged 23 points on 53 percent shooting from the field and 42 percent from the 3-point line, 8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 3.7 steals. And despite all the pressure, she was best on the biggest stage and did it all while being loved by fans and teammates alike. Even die-hard Cougars will be rooting for the University of Washington signee.

COACH SHANE WICHERS: “Devin is a dynamic player who can impact the game in every possible way. She is a relentless worker who has an extremely high standard for herself. She is a great teammate and a joy to work with and coach.”
