Whatcom Hoops Boys Top 30: #25 Gunnar Dykstra

In an incredible season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 boys. Each day we’ll feature an amazing player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.

#25

Gunnar Dykstra, sophomore, Lynden Christian

WHY HE’S #25: The 5-foot-9 guard  might have been overshadowed by his all-state brother, but he could shoot the 3-pointer as good as anyone including Gannon. Gunnar averaged more than two 3s a game including tying the school record with nine in a game. He averaged 11.4 points on 49 percent shooting from the field and 42 percent from beyond the arc. He also had nearly 3 assists and 1.5 steals a game.

COACH TIM ZYLSTRA: “Gunnar is probably one of the best pure shooters for sure in the league if not in the state. Because he’s undersized, people sometimes overlook him, but you can’t because he can shoot from anywhere. If he’s left open, he can make it. He’s a fun kid to watch, especially with his attitude and his demeanor.”
