In a season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops ranked the top 30 girls. Each day we featured an amazing player in our county and counted down until we got to #1. We hope you enjoyed the countdown as we honored the best of the best.
#21
Madisyn Butenschoen, senior, Ferndale
WHY SHE’S #21: As the tallest Ferndale starter at 5-foot-9, Butenschoen was asked to be an inside presence both on offense and defense. She provided both, averaging a team-high 8.6 points a game along with 5.8 rebounds a game, 46 assists and 29 steals. Her ability to shoot the 3-pointer made her a tough matchup for the other team’s post and, more importantly, her steady leadership made the Golden Eagles a tough matchup for any opposing squad.
COACH TERRI YOST: “Madi is a great leader and teammate. She communicates and directs her teammates on both ends of the court creating the best possible outcome for our team. It’s fun to watch her connect on the court with Ellie (Ochoa) for their give-and-go and with her sister, Mallory (Butenschoen), who she has tied with the last two season for points.”
