Whatcom Hoops Girls Top 30: #21 Makayla Heaton

In an incredible season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 girls. Each day we’ll feature an amazing player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.

#21

Makayla Heaton, senior, Squalicum

WHY SHE’S #21: The other half of the Storm’s mighty mite backcourt, Heaton was dangerous on offense averaging nearly 7 points and 2 assists a game, and was a major pain to opponents on defense. In addition to averaging 3.5 steals, the 5-foot-5 guard pulled down 4 rebounds a game and as a four-year starter broke the school’s career rebounding record with 427.

COACH JENALYN BROWN: “Makayla was impressive offensively and defensively and showed great leadership this season. She is funny and hardworking and holds herself and her teammates to a high standard. I have truly enjoyed getting to have her on our squad and her team has been lucky to have her tenacity and competency carry us through challenging games. She was also a varsity starter since her freshman year and only missed one game due to illness. Her consistency and ability to lock it in set the program onto a higher trajectory of skill and ability.”
