In a season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops ranked the top 30 boys. Each day we featured an amazing player in our county and counted down until we got to #1. We hope you enjoyed the countdown as we honored the best of the best.
#26
Damien Toney, senior, Ferndale
WHY HE’S #26: The only returning starter from last year’s remarkable Ferndale state squad, Toney was the Golden Eagles’ main inside presence. Despite playing through injuries, the 6-foot-4 forward averaged 10.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and even 1.1 assists per game. In addition, he was a positive influence in the locker room and on the court for an inexperienced Ferndale team.
COACH JASON OWENS: “Damien is an amazingly fun young man who always competed and brought joy to our locker room. He battled injuries all year that kept him from being the dynamic player he wanted to be and could have been. He is the guy that our other players looked up to and was always picking up and encouraging his teammates. He will be successful in whatever sport he decides to pursue at the next level whether it be football or basketball because of his team-first mind set. He will be missed at FHS hoops.”
