In a season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops ranked the top 30 boys. Each day we featured an amazing player in our county and counted down until we got to #1. We hope you enjoyed the countdown as we honored the best of the best.
#9
Lucas Smith, senior, Blaine
WHY HE’S #9: Although it probably isn’t his natural position, Smith took over as point guard and turned out to be one of the best in the Northwest Conference. The 6-foot-3 senior averaged 15.2 points and more than 3 assists a game while running an offense that put up almost 67 points a contest on the way to a third-place finish at the Class 1A state tournament. In addition to being able to shoot from the 3-point line or go inside, he pulled down 5 rebounds a game and nabbed 1.5 steals a game, all of which earned him a spot on the all-NWC second team.
COACH NATE SULLIVAN: “Lucas accepted his new role as point guard and ran with it. A very consistent scorer and passer.”
